AWS announces Nx Plugin for AWS for scaffolding full-stack applications
AWS released the open-source Nx Plugin for AWS to scaffold full-stack applications, integrating security and observability from the start.
Amazon Web Services announced version 1.0 of the Nx Plugin for AWS, an open-source toolkit designed to scaffold full-stack applications on AWS infrastructure. The plugin extends Nx, an open-source build system for monorepos, by providing generators that create individual application components on demand, including AI agents, APIs, websites, and databases. Each generator produces deployable code with recommended practices such as AWS WAF protection, CloudWatch logging, and X-Ray tracing built in.
The plugin includes generators for AI agents and Model Context Protocol servers on Amazon Bedrock AgentCore, as well as TypeScript and Python-based APIs, websites, and databases using proven open-source frameworks. Infrastructure is defined using either AWS Cloud Development Kit constructs or Terraform modules, ensuring compatibility with existing workflows. A connection generator creates type-safe clients between projects, converting API changes into build errors to prevent runtime failures.
Each generator produces consistent, repeatable results, providing a reliable foundation for AI assistants to build applications quickly while maintaining security and observability standards. The generated code is fully owned by the user, with no runtime dependency on the plugin, allowing for customization and future updates via Nx migrations. AWS resources are billed separately, with no additional charge for using the plugin itself.
The Nx Plugin for AWS is available under the Apache 2.0 license at no cost, with users only paying for the AWS resources consumed by their applications. Documentation and a launch blog post provide further details on installation, usage, and best practices for integrating the plugin into development workflows.
