AWS Transform for full-stack Windows modernization now supports Aurora PostgreSQL cross-region deployment in 7 more Regions
AWS expands its Transform tool to enable cross-region deployment of modernized Aurora PostgreSQL databases after SQL Server migrations, now available in seven additional regions.
AWS announced that its Transform service for full-stack Windows modernization now supports cross-region deployment of converted Amazon Aurora PostgreSQL databases. This update is available in seven new AWS Regions, expanding the tool’s geographic reach. Customers can now deploy modernized databases in regions that better meet data residency, latency, or disaster recovery needs. The feature allows users to specify a target AWS Region during the transformation process, ensuring the converted database is deployed accordingly.
The enhancement enables customers to upload SQL Server Database Design Language (DDL) files and set a target AWS Region in the transformation plan. This process converts the database to Aurora PostgreSQL and deploys the resulting cluster to the chosen region. The workflow also updates dependent .NET applications to be PostgreSQL compatible by modifying connection strings and data-access calls in ADO.NET and Entity Framework.
The new cross-region deployment capability is now available in US East (N. Virginia), Europe (Frankfurt), Europe (London), Asia Pacific (Mumbai), Asia Pacific (Seoul), Asia Pacific (Tokyo), Asia Pacific (Sydney), and Canada (Montreal). This expansion provides customers with additional flexibility in selecting deployment locations for their modernized databases.
To begin using the feature, customers can visit the AWS Transform product page or consult the AWS Transform for full-stack Windows modernization documentation. The documentation outlines the steps for uploading DDL files, setting the target region, and completing the database conversion and deployment process.
