AMD and Anthropic announced a strategic partnership to deploy up to 2 gigawatts of AMD Instinct MI450 Series GPUs in AMD Helios rack-scale solutions, with the first gigawatt scheduled for deployment in the first half of 2027. The agreement includes AMD Instinct MI455X GPUs, part of the MI450 Series, paired with AMD EPYC "Venice" CPUs, AMD Pensando networking, and ROCm software. Anthropic will use the systems to scale its AI infrastructure for training and inference workloads, building on its existing use of AMD Instinct MI355X GPUs.

The companies also launched a multi-year engineering collaboration to use Anthropic’s Claude AI to optimize workloads for AMD Instinct GPUs and accelerate ROCm software development. AMD plans to adopt Claude across its engineering and product development teams as part of this effort. Additionally, AMD committed to a strategic equity investment of up to $5 billion in Anthropic, pending completion of customary closing conditions.

AMD chair and CEO Dr. Lisa Su stated the partnership aims to accelerate AI adoption at scale by combining Anthropic’s AI leadership with AMD’s high-performance computing capabilities. Anthropic co-founder and chief compute officer Tom Brown emphasized the need for diversified hardware to efficiently map workloads and meet growing demand for its Claude AI model.

The announcement marks a significant milestone in the companies’ collaboration, establishing a long-term foundation for next-generation AI infrastructure development. AMD designs high-performance and AI computing solutions, including CPUs, GPUs, networking, and software, powering cloud, AI, embedded systems, and gaming platforms worldwide.
