Key points
·
Agentic AI systems can autonomously complete tasks like booking flights, expanding security beyond model protection to the full path from reasoning to execution.
·
Arm’s technologies such as Root of Trust, secure boot, attestation and memory safety address different parts of the agentic AI security challenge across systems.
·
Security must extend to device identity, authenticated communication and device-side enforcement as agentic AI moves into physical systems like robots and industrial equipment.

The shift from generative to agentic AI introduces autonomous systems that can search fares, use stored payment details and complete tasks like booking flights without human input, expanding the security challenge beyond protecting models and data. Security fundamentals such as identity, least privilege and monitoring remain essential, but the operating model must adapt to govern autonomous agents acting across diverse systems. Deterministic boundaries, enforceable policies and observable activity are now critical to ensure actions are attributable and unexpected behavior can be contained.

No single security mechanism can secure the entire path from intelligence to action in agentic AI, requiring multiple complementary controls across the agent runtime, software stack, host compute and infrastructure. Systems must identify actors, authorize permitted actions and maintain enforceable policies as agents dynamically select tasks. Activity must be observable for accountability, and mechanisms are needed to contain unauthorized behavior when it occurs.

Arm’s decades of secure computing work provide foundational technologies such as Root of Trust, secure boot, attestation and memory safety to address different aspects of agentic AI security. Secure boot and attestation verify workloads and security controls, while memory safety technologies like Arm Memory Tagging Extension mitigate vulnerabilities in software between reasoning and execution.

As agentic AI expands beyond data centers to PCs, smartphones, robots and industrial systems, security must extend to device identity, authenticated communication and device-side enforcement. Arm Device Connect enables AI agents and devices to interact while applying identity, permissions and governance, while functional safety mechanisms must align with agentic security to ensure actions remain within safe operating limits.
