Babcock and LIG D&A sign Strategic Cooperation Agreement to promote global capabilities
Babcock International and LIG Defence & Aerospace have signed a Strategic Cooperation Agreement to jointly develop defence solutions, combining engineering expertise and manufacturing capabilities for global markets.
The useful question is what changes for users, developers or buyers, and whether the announcement stays industry context or becomes something people can actually use.
Babcock International and LIG Defence & Aerospace (LIG D&A) have formalised a Strategic Cooperation Agreement to enhance international defence collaboration. The agreement leverages Babcock’s expertise in engineering, support, and mission-critical operations alongside LIG D&A’s technological and manufacturing strengths. The partnership aims to explore joint development and delivery of solutions for global defence and security customers. The collaboration builds on a Memorandum of Understanding signed in November 2024, reflecting a shared focus on innovation and operational excellence.
Sir Nick Hine, Babcock’s Chief Growth Officer, highlighted the partnership’s potential to create a strong proposition for international markets. He noted that the combined capabilities, including complementary engineering expertise and global reach, would enable the pursuit of immediate and long-term opportunities. Hine emphasised the expected value derived from the collaboration, particularly in addressing evolving defence and security needs. The agreement positions both companies to strengthen their competitive presence in key regions.
Dr. Hans Lee, President of LIG Defence & Aerospace’s Global Business Group, described the agreement as a pivotal step for securing new competitiveness in the global market. He pointed to LIG D&A’s established presence in South Korea, including Babcock Korea’s assembly, maintenance, repair, and overhaul facility in Busan. The facility supports Republic of Korea Navy programmes, including the supply of the Weapon Handling and Launch System for the KSS-III submarine programme.
The partnership also underscores LIG D&A’s broader strategic collaborations within Korean industry. By integrating Babcock’s global reach with LIG D&A’s local manufacturing and technological capabilities, the agreement aims to enhance both companies’ ability to meet international defence requirements. The collaboration is expected to foster innovation and operational synergies across defence and security sectors worldwide.
