The Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) introduced the K-12 Cybersecurity Foundations Resource Package, a set of guides, videos and materials designed to help K-12 schools and districts prevent, mitigate and respond to cyber threats. The package provides cost-effective, actionable steps based on current best practices and frameworks, allowing institutions to develop and maintain cybersecurity programs tailored to their needs. Resources are available for leaders, non-technical staff and IT professionals, ensuring broad accessibility across school communities.

CISA Acting Director Nicholas Anderson emphasized the urgency of addressing cyberattacks in K-12 schools, which jeopardize educational integrity, student and teacher safety, and operational continuity. The resource package aims to empower school communities with practical strategies to proactively defend against cyber threats, minimize disruptions and protect systems relied upon by students, parents and educators. The package includes a Getting Started Guide, an Implementation Guide, a six-part video series and quick reference materials to support understanding and navigation.

The guides focus on eight key cybersecurity objectives, reflecting CISA’s view that cybersecurity is now a fundamental pillar of school safety. CISA Acting Executive Assistant Director for Infrastructure Security Scott Breor stated that the package provides a roadmap for schools to increase cyber awareness, evaluate current defenses and strengthen resilience amid evolving threats. The initiative aligns with Executive Order 14239, which emphasizes state and local preparedness for risk-informed decision-making.

CISA’s school safety mission includes strengthening the safety, security and resilience of K-12 communities through capacity-building resources. The agency encourages schools and districts to use the package to assess their cybersecurity posture and implement tailored solutions.
