Northern Forge Studios and Runaway Play lead Green Games Jam Awards 2026

The 2026 Green Games Jam Awards, hosted by Playing for the Planet, celebrated achievements in sustainable game development and environmental storytelling at BFI Southbank last week. Eleven awards were presented across multiple categories, highlighting innovations in eco-conscious design and narrative approaches within the industry. The event underscored the growing role of games in promoting environmental awareness and action among players globally.

Northern Forge Studios and Runaway Play were the most decorated recipients, each securing two awards. Northern Forge won Best Small Studio and UNEP's Choice for *Orna: The GPS RPG*, while Runaway Play earned Best Storytelling for *Flutter: Butterfly Sanctuary* and Google's Choice for *Splash – Fish Aquarium*. The recognition reflects their commitment to integrating environmental themes into gameplay and design.

CD Projekt Red received the Changemaker award for its contributions to sustainable development practices, while Ustwo Games' CEO Maria Sayans was honored with the Champion accolade. Rovio Entertainment was awarded Best Fundraising for *Angry Birds Friends* and *Angry Birds Dream Blast*, demonstrating the industry's diverse approaches to environmental engagement.

Playing for the Planet head of operations Lisa Pak emphasized the event's impact, noting strong player response to reef and rainforest content. The awards marked the conclusion of the Green Games Summit, which included discussions with industry leaders such as Hasbro, Supercell, and Playstack on sustainability and resilience in gaming.
