How to Add Zoom to Google Calendar (+ Make It the Default)
Google Calendar users can now add Zoom as a default video conferencing option by installing the Zoom Google Calendar plugin, though this requires a Google Workspace admin account to fully replace Meet.
Google Calendar defaults to Google Meet for video calls, but users can add Zoom by installing the Zoom for Google Workspace plugin through the Google Workspace Marketplace. The process involves clicking the Get Add-ons icon, selecting the Zoom card, and following installation prompts. Once installed, Zoom meeting details automatically populate in calendar events after logging into a Zoom account. This integration is available for both personal and organizational accounts, though making Zoom the default requires administrative access.
To set Zoom as the default video conferencing tool, Google Workspace admins must first disable Google Meet as the default for all users via the Apps menu in Google Workspace settings. After disabling Meet, admins can configure Calendar to automatically add Zoom meetings to new events by selecting Sharing Settings and enabling the Automatically add video calls option. This change ensures that Zoom becomes the default video conferencing provider whenever a new event is created in Google Calendar.
The method requires disabling Google Meet entirely for all users, which may not be ideal for organizations that rely on both services. However, this workaround allows users to avoid manually switching between Meet and Zoom when scheduling meetings. The process is straightforward but limited to Google Workspace accounts, as personal Gmail accounts cannot make Zoom the default video conferencing option in Google Calendar.
