Google Cloud’s new Ultra Low Latency (ULL) Solution, now generally available, introduces the U4 machine family to address latency-sensitive trading workflows in capital markets. The solution combines dedicated bare metal instances, hardware-accelerated networking, and precision timing to replicate physical co-location performance within Google Cloud. Market participants gain access to predictable, low-jitter compute and storage optimized for real-time market data processing and order execution. The architecture isolates production workloads in primary zones while allowing routine maintenance in secondary zones to ensure continuous trading readiness.

The U4 family includes three series: U4P for exchange operators, U4C for market participants, and U4S high-performance VMs. U4P and U4C are dual-socket bare metal instances with three physical NICs, while U4S VMs offer elastic scaling from 2 to 288 vCPUs and up to 100 Gbps networking. All instances leverage Google Cloud’s Titanium offload system for direct host resource access, minimizing virtualization overhead. Local Titanium SSDs provide up to 18 TiB of fast storage for real-time logging, and Hyperdisk supports persistent market data archives.

Networking in the ULL Solution features hardware-level multicast feed ingestion, redundant A/B multicast paths, and independent telemetry adapters to ensure traffic isolation. The architecture supports OpenOnload and DPDK for accelerated packet processing, achieving sub-10 nanosecond network timestamping and UTC synchronization within regulatory requirements. Built-in 24/7 low-latency packet capture enables regulatory compliance and real-time analytics without impacting primary traffic performance.

The ULL Solution is available in select private Google Cloud regions, enabling rapid provisioning, on-demand scaling, and dynamic fleet management. Trading teams can offload data streams to services like BigQuery and Gemini Enterprise while executing ultra-low latency trades on a dedicated, isolated network. Collaborations such as the migration of CME Group’s derivatives markets to Google Cloud demonstrate the solution’s ability to deliver co-location-level speed with cloud agility.
