Google announced Magic Capture, a new feature for the Pixel 11 that captures fleeting moments by analyzing up to 400 frames in a single session. Users initiate the feature when anticipating an event, such as a birthday candle being blown out, and the system automatically selects the best shots. The technology prioritizes well-timed images, including smiles, laughter, or action shots, without requiring manual input. This aims to reduce distractions while ensuring high-quality photos are preserved.

Magic Capture also offers optional light edits, such as cropping, straightening, or unblurring, applied automatically where appropriate. These adjustments are designed to enhance the final output without requiring user intervention. The feature is integrated into the Pixel 11’s camera system and operates in the background during a session. Users can review and select their preferred images after the capture is complete.

The Pixel 11 phones, which include Magic Capture, are available for preorder starting today. They will be sold through the Google Store and select retail partners beginning August 20. Pricing details were not disclosed in the announcement. The feature will be available exclusively on Pixel 11 devices, with no indication of future compatibility with older models.

Google provided a demonstration of Magic Capture via a video featuring Shenaz Zack, senior director of product management for Pixel.
