Grammarly Authorship Is Now Available in Blackboard

Grammarly Authorship, which launched in beta for Google Docs in October 2024 and later expanded to Microsoft Word and Grammarly Docs, now recognizes AI-generated content in documents, including text from Copilot in Word and Gemini in Google Docs. Students have generated over 5 million Authorship reports, demonstrating its growing adoption in academic settings. At Rowan-Cabarrus Community College, the tool helped reduce academic integrity violations in the English department from 27 to 1 in a single semester, a 96% decrease.

The new integration with Blackboard allows institutions to embed Authorship within their existing learning management systems, providing scalable transparency for student writing. Instructors can enable the feature in Blackboard’s assignment settings, while students can activate tracking in Microsoft Word, Word Online, Google Docs, or Grammarly Docs with a single click. The system automatically categorizes text sources as human-typed, AI-generated, copied, or rephrased, offering detailed reports without requiring traditional detection tools.

Unlike opaque detection methods, Grammarly Authorship prioritizes transparency and student consent, allowing learners to showcase their authentic writing process. Students can view their Authorship reports but cannot alter them before submission, ensuring two-way visibility into how work was produced. When ready, students attach the report’s share link to their Blackboard submission, granting instructors access to a class-level overview or individual writing process replays.

The integration is available to Grammarly for Education customers on institution-wide Blackboard plans, with administrators able to install the LTI tool via a setup guide. The partnership with Anthology aims to make writing transparency a standard practice as AI use in education becomes more common.
