The Ducati Lenovo Remote Garage, initially a remote operations tool during the pandemic, now serves as a training platform for Ducati MotoGP engineers. It enables real-time collaboration between the Borgo Panigale factory and race circuits, allowing engineers to analyze data and make decisions without the full pressure of being trackside. This setup helps develop technical talent by exposing them to race-weekend dynamics early in their careers. The system was co-created by Ducati Corse and Lenovo in 2020 using Lenovo’s technology infrastructure.
MotoGP demands rapid, high-pressure decision-making from engineers, who must process split-second data to support riders. The Remote Garage replicates this environment at the factory, allowing junior engineers to experience the intensity of race weekends before stepping trackside. Nicolò Mancinelli, Vehicle Development Manager at Ducati Corse, oversees this development pathway, emphasizing the importance of early exposure to race operations.
Engineers like Federico Bonini, who trained in the Remote Garage before moving to the on-track test team, describe the experience as highly realistic. The system requires real-time data analysis, quick decision-making, and constant communication with the team, mirroring trackside conditions. Bonini notes that the skills acquired in the Remote Garage directly translate to his current role, bridging the gap between factory training and trackside performance.
Lenovo’s technology infrastructure powers the Remote Garage, ensuring seamless real-time connections between the factory and circuits. Simone Colangeli, an engineer who supports a Ducati satellite team, highlights the system’s ability to provide immediate access to track servers, eliminating delays in data processing. This integration is critical for rapid problem-solving during races and underscores the long-term investment in Ducati’s engineering talent pipeline.
