Introducing the new Copilot with Home, Code and Autopilot
Microsoft unveiled an updated Copilot with three new features—Home, Code, and Autopilot—expanding AI integration across work tasks and tools like Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Microsoft introduced a refreshed Copilot designed to integrate AI more deeply into daily workflows, combining Chat and Cowork into a unified Home interface where users can resume tasks, receive suggestions, and access Office tools like Word, Excel, and PowerPoint without switching apps. The Home feature streamlines document creation and collaboration, allowing edits to appear in real time and enabling users to delegate complex work such as RFP responses or financial packages to Copilot’s Cowork mode, which completes tasks end-to-end.
Code, a new capability, enables non-developers to build small, purpose-built applications or automations using natural language, powered by the same technology as GitHub Copilot. It operates in a secure, sandboxed environment within Microsoft 365, allowing users to create widgets, dashboards, or internal apps that sync with their work context via Microsoft IQ. Code will roll out to Frontier participants first, followed by broader availability for Premium and Pro subscribers later this year.
Autopilot, previously called Scout, functions as a persistent digital teammate that performs recurring tasks, follows up on threads, and manages projects independently without constant oversight. It can handle workflows like supplier reviews, scheduling, and stakeholder communications while maintaining permissions and governance within the user’s tenant. Autopilot integrates into existing tools such as Teams, Outlook, and documents, allowing users to @mention it like a colleague and set objectives or boundaries for its actions.
Microsoft also announced new FinOps for AI capabilities to help organizations monitor and optimize spending on Copilot and its agents. Additionally, Copilot is now grounded in Fabric IQ, which incorporates trusted data from Power BI’s semantic models, and Dynamics 365 and Power Platform workflows, enabling more context-aware responses in Chat, Cowork, and eventually Code. These updates aim to make AI assistance more practical and scalable across enterprise environments.
