The index measures confidence in 101 tasks, with an average score of 64 out of 100, indicating where AI agents are already trusted to handle real work. Tasks like automated report generation (83.5) and boilerplate code generation (82.5) rank highest, reflecting areas where agents reliably reduce repetitive workloads for technical teams.
The report highlights a clear pattern: agents are most trusted for predictable, high-volume, and reversible tasks such as certificate expiration monitoring (81.5) and real-time data stream monitoring (80.5). Lower-confidence tasks, such as service mesh configuration (37.5) and database schema migration scripting (46.5), remain challenging but show progress as teams integrate agents into complex workflows. Experts emphasize the importance of keeping humans in the loop, with 59% prioritizing oversight over other adoption factors like governance or observability.
Microsoft is addressing these gaps with new capabilities, including expanded database migration tooling in GitHub Copilot and the Azure Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) Agent for memory analysis. The company’s Microsoft IQ platform aims to unify enterprise context into a single intelligence layer, integrating tools like Work IQ to understand business operations across collaboration systems. The Microsoft Agent Platform is positioned as an operating system for enterprise AI, combining data, models, agents, and human judgment into a secure, continuously improving system.
