NextEra Energy Transmission, LLC, a subsidiary of NextEra Energy, Inc., and the New Mexico Renewable Energy Transmission Authority announced the completion of the Crossroads-Hobbs-Roadrunner Transmission Line in New Mexico. The 137-mile, 345-kilovolt line connects substations across Roosevelt and Lea counties, delivering power to homes, businesses, and industries. The project was completed ahead of schedule, reinforcing grid reliability and meeting rising electricity demand in the region.
The new transmission line is projected to reduce the typical residential electric bill in the area by approximately $13 per month. It marks the third consecutive transmission project NextEra Energy Transmission has completed on time and on budget for the Southwest Power Pool grid. The line also supports local economic growth by increasing access to low-cost energy and strengthening infrastructure for future development.
Matt Valle, president of NextEra Energy Transmission, highlighted the project's significance, stating it demonstrates the benefits of collaboration, community engagement, and disciplined execution in meeting America's urgent electricity needs. The Crossroads project also resulted in the preservation of approximately 40 square miles of habitat for the lesser prairie chicken in New Mexico. The collaboration involved NextEra Energy Transmission, nonprofit partners, and state agencies, ensuring both energy delivery and conservation goals were met. The project aligns with New Mexico's efforts to balance renewable energy development with environmental stewardship.
