‘It’s Going To Be The Nico Show’ – Nico Carrillo Promises To Start His Kickboxing Journey With A Bang

Nico Carrillo, the undisputed ONE Featherweight Muay Thai World Champion, will make his kickboxing debut this Friday, August 14, at ONE Fight Night 46 in Bangkok. The event, held at Lumpinee Stadium, marks his first step in kickboxing after previously dominating Muay Thai. Carrillo faces Chinese newcomer Zhou Jiaqiang in a U.S. primetime bout, signaling a new challenge in his career.

Despite recently being elevated to undisputed Muay Thai champion, Carrillo insists his focus remains unchanged for the kickboxing bout. He emphasized his opponent and preparation as priorities, dismissing any distraction from the title news. Carrillo expressed excitement about the debut, aiming to prove his ability to succeed in kickboxing as he did in Muay Thai.

Carrillo’s kickboxing debut follows a strong Muay Thai run, including a knockout streak and a five-round performance against Shadow Mavinn to earn the interim title. He downplayed concerns about switching to smaller gloves, asserting that his power and defensive adaptability will translate seamlessly. His confidence extends to predicting a second-round knockout via a left head kick.

While the kickboxing debut is a priority, Carrillo’s immediate plans include defending his Muay Thai title later this year. He also expressed interest in transitioning to MMA, potentially competing in Qatar in March 2027 as part of ONE Championship’s renewed partnership with Visit Qatar. His long-term goal remains becoming a two-sport world champion.
