Announcing the General Availability of Prisma AIRS AI Gateway
Palo Alto Networks announced the general availability of Prisma AIRS AI Gateway, a control plane designed to manage AI interactions securely across enterprise systems.
Palo Alto Networks introduced the Prisma AIRS AI Gateway, positioning it as a foundational component for enterprise AI infrastructure. The gateway aims to address the challenge of scaling AI adoption while maintaining security and governance, acting as a unified control plane between AI interactions and backend models. It replaces fragmented point solutions that struggle to handle enterprise-scale AI workloads. The announcement follows the company’s acquisition of Portkey, with the integration of its innovations completed within six weeks of the deal closing.
The gateway enforces runtime controls, identity verification, and policy checks for every AI request, including those involving coding assistants, enterprise agents, and copilots. It replaces raw provider keys with scoped credentials, tracks token usage and costs by team or project, and prevents unauthorized data exfiltration. Traffic is distributed via a Universal API to ensure quotas are enforced and outages do not disrupt operations. The solution also neutralizes prompt injection attempts in line with OWASP guidelines.
Palo Alto Networks cited internal firewall telemetry showing a rise in MCP activity from 11% late last year to 41.4% by mid-2026, alongside a twelve-fold increase in monthly AI transaction volume. The company argues that enterprises must govern AI interactions in real time to avoid risks such as shadow AI or unchecked data exposure. The gateway provides a single enforcement point for operational and security controls, enabling platform teams to manage AI usage centrally without altering developer workflows.
The AI Gateway is built on an architecture tested in demanding enterprise environments, offering features like verifiable agent identities, data protection, and cost management. Palo Alto Networks highlights its recognition as a leading AI security platform by Gartner, positioning the gateway as a solution for enterprises navigating the rapid adoption of agentic AI systems. Registration for a webinar is available to demonstrate the gateway’s capabilities in practice.
