Roblox announced the 'Roblox Everywhere' initiative, enabling creators to release their games as standalone applications across PC, consoles, and mobile platforms. This move aims to break the barrier where Roblox games are confined to the platform’s ecosystem, allowing broader distribution. The company has not yet finalized details on storefront availability, but a Roblox representative confirmed the goal is to include major platforms like Steam, Epic, and GOG. Testing will begin with a select group of developers and storefronts before a wider rollout.

The initiative follows Roblox’s growing influence in player engagement and revenue, with industry analyst Matthew Ball, now Xbox’s chief strategy officer, noting in 2025 that Roblox surpassed Steam, PlayStation, and Fortnite combined in these metrics. By offering standalone apps, Roblox seeks to tap into audiences outside its platform, benefiting both creators and the company. Cross-play will be enabled by default, allowing players on Roblox and standalone apps to play together seamlessly.

Roblox is also expanding access through browser-based play, starting with Chrome by the end of the year, followed by other browsers. No external software or installation will be required, and an offline mode will be introduced to support single-player games without a network connection. These changes reflect Roblox’s broader strategy to meet players where they are, both online and offline.

The move mirrors a reverse trend where traditional publishers like Starbreeze and Mattel are launching content on Roblox. This shift highlights Roblox’s dual role as both a platform for creators and a competitor to conventional gaming ecosystems. The initiative, revealed at the Roblox Developers Conference, signals a significant evolution in how Roblox games are distributed and experienced.
