Robots versus fungi FPS Mycopunk is leaving early access next month

Developer Pigeons at Play announced Mycopunk’s 1.0 launch date at the PC Gaming Show Tokyo Direct, set for October 20. The cooperative first-person shooter tasks players with controlling robot squads deployed to alien planets to eliminate pervasive fungal lifeforms. Missions range from clearing enemy-infested zones to constructing railguns for interdiction, offering varied objectives for solo or group play. Early access is already available on Steam, allowing players to prepare before the full release arrives next month.

Mycopunk’s gameplay emphasizes thorough enemy elimination, as fungal foes can regenerate from remaining body parts. Destroying dismembered fragments prevents enemy revival and stops other creatures from absorbing the detritus to evolve into more formidable threats. Between missions, players return to a space station hub to customize loadouts, upgrade gear, engage in minigames, and interact with friends or NPCs. The upgrade system uses a hexagonal grid where players install shapes to optimize weapon and class builds for maximum effectiveness.

The Freeze & Fester update launched in August, adding new content for players who paused their progress during the summer. The update introduced additional missions, enemies, and mechanics to refresh the experience before the 1.0 release. Steam users can access the early access version now, with the full launch scheduled for October 20. The developer has not announced additional paid expansions or downloadable content beyond the existing updates.
