It: Welcome to Derry Drops News Episode To Celebrate Halloween

HBO Max surprised viewers by dropping a 30-minute special episode of It: Welcome to Derry at midnight to celebrate Halloween. The episode, titled A Story of Derry, is set hundreds of years in the past and follows a group of children exploring the Western Woods. The special introduces an ancient spirit tied to Pennywise and the broader Stephen King universe, offering a glimpse into the show’s lore.

Directed by Tazbah Chavez and written by Cherie Dimaline and Jasmyne Flournoy, A Story of Derry serves as a bridge between the first season and the upcoming second season. The special’s release follows the recent announcement of the show’s renewal, signaling HBO Max’s commitment to expanding the series beyond its 1960s setting.

The first season of It: Welcome to Derry primarily focused on Derry, Maine, in the 1960s, revealing more about Pennywise’s origins. The second season will continue the anthology format, following a group of bank robbers who arrive in Derry during the Great Depression and face violent consequences.

A Story of Derry, the first season, and Andy Muschietti’s two It films are all available to stream on HBO Max this Halloween. The second season’s release window has not yet been announced, leaving fans to await further updates amid uncertainty about HBO’s future.
