Obsidian Entertainment has introduced a public test update that enables full controller support for both Pillars of Eternity and Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire on PC. Players can now complete either game entirely using a controller, from character creation to the end credits, including naval combat in Deadfire. The update also allows switching between controller and mouse-and-keyboard at any time without interrupting gameplay.

The controller scheme for Deadfire is based on its console editions, with radial menus added for quick ability and spell use. The update includes a reworked turn-based mode for Deadfire, aligning it with improvements made to Pillars of Eternity’s turn-based mode. Turns now follow each character’s speed, combat is more lethal, and actions like swapping weapons or drinking potions no longer cost a turn.

Patch 1.3.10.0, which includes these changes, also introduces fixes across combat, quests, audio, and the interface. The patch supports Xbox and PlayStation controllers, as well as the Steam Deck and Steam’s Big Picture mode. Interface adjustments display the correct button prompts for the connected controller.

The public test will run indefinitely as Obsidian continues to refine the update before its full release. Players should expect potential bugs during the testing phase. Detailed patch notes and instructions for joining the test are available in the official announcement.
