Homes England has appointed Digbeth Loc Studios Ltd as its preferred development partner to deliver a major new creative and mixed-use neighbourhood at Fazeley Street in Digbeth, Birmingham. The project aims to build on the area’s existing creative infrastructure, including BBC Studioworks, The Bond, The Custard Factory and The Tea Factory, fostering collaboration between businesses, residents and visitors. The development will support economic growth by creating new homes, employment opportunities and investment while strengthening Birmingham’s reputation as a centre for film, television and creative production.

Digbeth Loc Studios has previously transformed the Banana Warehouse into the Masterchef studio and led the redevelopment of Television Centre and the Truman Brewery in London. The company will work with Homes England, Birmingham City Council and the Mayor of the West Midlands to implement plans for a vibrant mixed-use neighbourhood that celebrates Digbeth’s heritage.

The initiative forms part of a broader ambition to establish Digbeth as a globally recognised destination for the creative sector and a model for creative-led regeneration. The project aligns with ongoing efforts to improve the public realm and support the area’s distinctive cultural identity, complementing existing investments such as the BBC’s work at Typhoo Wharf.

Homes England describes the selection as a significant milestone in Digbeth’s transformation over the past 12 months into a nationally significant hub for creative industries. The partnership aims to accelerate growth, create jobs and position the West Midlands at the forefront of the UK’s creative economy through targeted investment and collaboration.
