Amazon Redshift now integrates with the Agent Toolkit for AWS, enabling AI agents to manage data warehouses and lakes via AWS MCP Server and curated Redshift skills.
Amazon Redshift has introduced integration with the Agent Toolkit for AWS, allowing AI agents such as Claude Code, Kiro, and Cursor to perform tasks like building, querying, troubleshooting, and migrating to Redshift data warehouses and data lakes. This integration leverages the AWS MCP Server to execute authenticated AWS API calls on behalf of the agents, while Redshift skills provide tested procedures and reference materials to improve task accuracy. The skills cover SQL syntax references, metadata discovery, data loading patterns, and best practices for materialized views, functions, and data types, including extensions like Qualify, Pivot, and Super.
The Redshift skills also support end-to-end data warehouse migrations to Amazon Redshift, including schema and SQL conversion, data movement, validation, and performance comparison. These skills are compatible with both provisioned clusters and Serverless workgroups, require no changes to existing infrastructure, and are available at no additional charge in all AWS Regions where Amazon Redshift and the AWS MCP Server are offered. The integration aims to reduce manual effort and errors in data warehouse management and migration processes.
To begin using the integration, users can install the aws-data-analytics plugin in their AI agent, which includes the MCP Server configuration and Redshift skills in a single step. Alternatively, agents with MCP Server access can discover and load skills at runtime without pre-installation. The setup process is designed to be straightforward, with documentation available for both the Agent Toolkit and Amazon Redshift skills.
