Amazon WorkSpaces Applications introduces unified graphics images

Amazon WorkSpaces Applications has launched unified graphics images, replacing the previous requirement for separate images per graphics generation. The new single image type now supports all graphics instance families, including G4dn, G5, G6, and G7. This change eliminates the need to maintain multiple images, reducing administrative overhead for customers managing fleets across different GPU generations.

The unified graphics images streamline fleet creation and management by allowing customers to select compatible instance types directly from the console. This feature helps users balance price and performance requirements for their workloads without needing to switch between different image types. The console now displays all supported instance families when deploying a new fleet.

Customers can now change instance types across supported graphics families using either the console or the UpdateFleet API. Previously, this capability was restricted to resizing within a single instance family, limiting flexibility. The update enables easier adoption of newer GPU generations as they become available without rebuilding fleets.

Unified graphics images are available in all AWS commercial and AWS GovCloud (US) Regions where Amazon WorkSpaces Applications graphics instances are supported. Existing graphics images can be upgraded through Managed Image Update, or new image builders can be launched from a unified base image to start using the feature immediately.
