Announcing Blockchain Snapshots on AWS for node bootstrapping
AWS launched Blockchain Snapshots on Amazon S3 to let Ethereum and Solana node operators boot nodes faster by using pre-synced chain data instead of syncing from peers.
Amazon Web Services introduced Blockchain Snapshots on AWS, a service that provides pre-synced public blockchain node chain data stored in Amazon Simple Storage Service (Amazon S3). Node operators can use these snapshots to initialize a new node or recover a failed one, bypassing the slower process of peer-to-peer network synchronization.
The snapshots are hosted on Amazon S3 within AWS infrastructure, offering reduced latency and optimized data transfer for customers running nodes on AWS. Each snapshot is formatted for parallel extraction across multiple cores, which speeds up setup time when used with an Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2) instance.
Blockchain Snapshots on AWS currently supports Ethereum and Solana networks and are available at no charge. The snapshots refresh on the same schedule as the upstream provider, ensuring users have access to the most recent chain data for reliable node operations.
To use the snapshots, customers must deploy an Amazon EC2 instance in one of three supported AWS Regions: US East (N. Virginia), Europe (Ireland), or Asia Pacific (Tokyo). Access requires an Amazon S3 gateway VPC endpoint within the same Region, and setup instructions are available in the Blockchain Snapshots on AWS documentation.
