AWS Lambda durable functions are now available in AWS GovCloud (US) Regions

AWS Lambda durable functions have been introduced in the AWS GovCloud (US-West) and AWS GovCloud (US-East) Regions, expanding their availability to government and highly regulated sectors. These functions allow developers to build resilient multi-step applications and AI workflows directly within the Lambda environment. The new primitives, such as "step" and "wait," enable progress checkpointing, automatic recovery from failures, and pausing executions without incurring compute charges for on-demand functions.

The availability in AWS GovCloud Regions ensures that government customers and regulated industries can orchestrate complex processes like order workflows, user onboarding, and AI-assisted tasks while adhering to strict compliance and security standards. This expansion supports mission-critical workloads that require enhanced reliability and security controls.

Developers can activate durable functions for Lambda functions built with Python (versions 3.13 and 3.14), Node.js (versions 22 and 24), Go (versions 1.24 or later), .NET (version 2.2), or Java (17+) using the AWS Lambda API, AWS Management Console, or AWS SDK. This flexibility allows teams to integrate durable functions into existing workflows without significant changes to their development practices.

Lambda durable functions can also be deployed using infrastructure as code tools such as AWS CloudFormation, AWS Serverless Application Model (AWS SAM), and AWS Cloud Development Kit (AWS CDK).
