AWS Secrets Manager has introduced a one-click installation option for the AWS Workload Credentials Provider (AWCP) on Amazon Linux and Windows, replacing a previously complex multi-step build process. The new approach allows users to install the provider with a single command, eliminating the need for Rust expertise or manual compilation. This change aims to reduce setup time and operational overhead for developers managing secrets on EC2 instances.

The AWS Workload Credentials Provider retrieves secrets from AWS Secrets Manager and caches them locally, enabling applications to access them via a local HTTP endpoint. Additionally, it supports pulling certificates directly from AWS Certificate Manager, streamlining credential and certificate management for applications running on supported platforms.

Pre-built, signed binaries for Linux (x86_64 and ARM64) and Windows (x64) are now available for download from a public URL. Amazon Linux EC2 customers can install the provider directly from the Amazon Linux repository using a single command. All binaries are code-signed to ensure integrity and authenticity, providing a ready-to-run agent with in-memory secret caching.

The one-click installation is available on Amazon Linux 2023 (x86_64 and ARM64) and Windows Server (x64) across all AWS Regions where AWS Secrets Manager operates, with no additional cost beyond standard Secrets Manager pricing. Users can access documentation and resources on the AWS Workload Credentials Provider, ACM, and GitHub to begin implementation.
