Jira goes where spreadsheets can’t

Jira now includes capacity planning tools that display each team member’s workload in hours, percentages, or days, accounting for leave, on-call duties, and project allocations. The Capacity view centralizes availability data, eliminating the need to query teams separately or rely on outdated spreadsheets. Changes to workstreams automatically update availability, ensuring plans remain current without manual intervention.

Formula fields allow users to create custom calculations directly within Jira, such as identifying projects exceeding 80% of their budget. These fields integrate with dashboards, search queries, and automation triggers. Rovo, Atlassian’s AI assistant, can generate formulas or build visual reports based on user requests, reducing the time spent on manual data analysis and reducing errors from fragmented systems.

Space insights provide live, custom dashboards within Jira spaces that pull data directly from ongoing work, removing the need for manual exports or updates. Users can request visualizations like work completed versus created in a given month, and Rovo explains trends in plain language. The dashboards stay synchronized with the work, ensuring accuracy and reducing the administrative burden of maintaining separate reporting tools.

The updates aim to consolidate project planning, budgeting, and reporting into a single platform, reducing reliance on side systems and improving AI context. Capacity plans, budget formulas, and project data feed into Jira’s Teamwork Graph, enhancing Rovo’s ability to flag risks and surface actionable insights. All features are available now for Jira Cloud customers.
