Warning against Scams Using the Bank of Japan
The Bank of Japan warns the public about fraudsters impersonating the central bank to solicit investments or steal financial information, emphasizing it does not offer individual accounts or solicit investments.
The Bank of Japan has issued a public warning about scams involving fraudsters using its name or falsely claiming to be staff to obtain money, property, or personal financial details. These scams often involve fake investment solicitations on bogus websites that misuse the Bank’s identity. The central bank clarified that its staff never request such information, collect payments, or solicit investments through its official channels.
Cases have also emerged where false information about the Bank or its staff has been posted on impersonated websites and social media platforms. The Bank emphasized it has no connection to these fraudulent activities and does not offer deposit accounts to individuals or corporations outside financial institutions.
The Bank provided official links to its verified online platforms, including its English-language website, X (formerly Twitter), Facebook, and YouTube, to help the public identify legitimate sources. These channels serve as the only official communication outlets for the Bank of Japan.
Anyone receiving suspicious communications claiming to be from the Bank of Japan is advised to report the incident to local law enforcement. The Bank urged vigilance to prevent falling victim to such fraudulent schemes.
