Dropbox is integrating AI directly into its platform, allowing users to find, summarize, edit, and organize files within their existing Dropbox environment. The new features enable tasks such as drafting documents from project context, editing PDFs and images, transcribing recordings, and refining video clips without repeatedly uploading or downloading content. Results remain connected to the same folders, permissions, and sharing context, ensuring seamless collaboration. The rollout targets eligible Standard and Advanced teams in the US, UK, and Australia, with broader availability planned for 2027.

The company is also introducing DBX Agent Cloud, an infrastructure service designed to support companies and developers building AI applications. Starting with standalone object storage, the service aims to provide a consistent home for content, including training datasets, model artifacts, and multimodal files. DBX Agent Cloud is S3-compatible, allowing developers to use familiar tools and applications. The planned acquisition of Tigris Data Inc. will further expand these capabilities, adding filesystem and content-processing features to meet growing AI-driven storage demands.

Dropbox emphasizes safeguards to ensure transparency and control, including pre-approval for AI actions, adherence to existing permissions, the ability to undo changes, and a record of actions taken. Users can also choose and switch supported AI models within a session while keeping their work connected to existing files and collaboration context. Supported AI tools like ChatGPT, Claude, and Muse can interact with Dropbox files without requiring re-uploads, with results returning directly to Dropbox for further use.

The new Dropbox experience has already been rolled out to over 70,000 teams, focusing initially on eligible Standard and Advanced teams in select regions. The integration of AI into workflows and the expansion of infrastructure offerings aim to provide a consistent, controlled environment for content as AI tools and workflows evolve. Dropbox positions itself as a trusted foundation for AI-era applications, prioritizing user choice, flexibility, and content governance.
