Watch Sophie Adenot’s second spacewalk live

ESA astronaut Sophie Adenot will perform her second extravehicular activity (EVA-98) on Tuesday 25 August, following her initial spacewalk on 18 August. The event will be livestreamed on ESA WebTV and YouTube starting at 12:00 BST/13:00 CEST. Adenot will work alongside NASA astronaut Anil Menon to install a Space-To-Ground antenna (SGANT), which is essential for high-speed data transmission between the Space Station and mission control in Houston.

During the approximately six-and-a-half-hour spacewalk, Adenot and Menon will exit the International Space Station via the Quest airlock at around 13:35 BST/14:35 CEST. Their primary task is to install a spare SGANT to restore full redundancy after the failure of SGANT 2 in November 2025. The previous EVA-97 on 18 August was partially successful, as the duo removed the failed antenna but encountered delays due to stuck bolts and connectors, preventing the installation of the spare.

Adenot and Menon will be assisted by NASA astronauts Jessica Meir and Jack Hathaway, who will help them into their spacesuits. Menon, designated as Extravehicular Crew Member 1 (EV1), will wear a spacesuit with red stripes, while Adenot (EV2) will wear a suit without stripes. The Canadarm2 robotic arm, operated by Meir and Hathaway from inside the Station, will provide additional support during the spacewalk.

This mission marks Adenot’s second spacewalk and underscores the ongoing efforts to maintain critical systems aboard the International Space Station. The installation of the spare SGANT is expected to restore full redundancy to the Station’s communication infrastructure, ensuring reliable data transmission and operational continuity for future missions.
