Everybody loves Fairphone. See what we mean.
Fairphone reports nearly one million users globally, highlighting its sustainable and repairable smartphones, industry awards, and expanding partnerships with Dutch and international organizations.
The useful question is what changes for users, developers or buyers, and whether the announcement stays industry context or becomes something people can actually use.
Fairphone has reached nearly one million users worldwide over the past decade, with its devices consistently achieving top repairability scores. The Fairphone (Gen. 6) incorporates over 50% fair and recycled materials by weight, setting new standards for sustainability in the smartphone industry. The company has secured multiple awards, including the Koning Willem I Sustainable Entrepreneurship Plaque in 2025, personally presented by Queen Máxima of the Netherlands. These accolades reflect Fairphone’s transition from a start-up to a scale-up, demonstrating growing mainstream acceptance of ethical electronics.
Fairphone devices are now official work devices for employees across numerous Dutch municipalities and civic corporations, including Amsterdam, Haarlem, Apeldoorn, and Eindhoven. In early 2026, Radboud University in Nijmegen designated Fairphone as its standard company device, citing its five-year warranty and long-term software support as key factors. The company’s e-waste collection efforts have expanded through partnerships like Race Against Waste, which accounted for 34% of all electronic waste collected in the Netherlands in 2025.
Major organizations such as Picnic Technologies, Airbus, and Deutsche Telekom have adopted Fairphone as their core company device. Renewi, a waste-to-product leader, deployed over 900 Fairphone 4 devices in 2023, later expanding to include Fairphone 5 and the Fairphone (Gen. 6) for new employees. Coolrec, Renewi’s subsidiary, produces protective cases for these devices using plastic recycled from old refrigerators, further closing the circular economy loop.
Fairphone has also partnered with Klabu, a sports-focused social enterprise operating in refugee camps, where clubhouse coordinators now use Fairphone devices for organizational tasks. In July 2026, Fairphone became an affiliate sponsor of Feyenoord, a Rotterdam-based football club, with its logo featured on match wear shorts and courtside visibility at De Kuip stadium. These collaborations underscore Fairphone’s expanding influence in driving sustainable practices across industries and regions.
