Google announced the expansion of its AI Professional Certificate to include a new course focused on "vibe coding," which allows users to create applications by describing their requirements in everyday language. The course, available immediately, teaches planning, testing, debugging, and deployment of custom tools without requiring technical expertise. Enrollment is open at grow.google/AICert, where learners can begin building their own applications. The addition reflects growing interest in accessible AI development tools, with U.S. searches for "vibe coding" rising 140% year-over-year.
The expanded certificate builds on the program’s February launch, which became the most popular generative AI certificate on Coursera. Over a million learners have used the curriculum to apply AI in practical settings, while major employers such as Deloitte, Verizon, Lyft, and Walmart have adopted the course for workforce training. The new vibe coding module aims to further democratize app development by enabling users to turn ideas into functional tools, such as team dashboards or automated workflows, without writing code.
Walmart employee Leo Garcia, a former truck driver turned Logistics Load Manager, used the certificate to design four custom applications, including "Get My Driver Home," which reduced daily reporting meetings from hours to 15 minutes. His apps now help coordinate driver shifts across multiple states. Walmart continues to review and implement associate-created tools, demonstrating the program’s impact on operational efficiency. Verizon has also integrated the certificate into its workforce development initiatives, with employees applying skills to projects like virtual quoting assistants in Gemini Notebook.
Google emphasized its commitment to making AI accessible and practical for all users through the expanded curriculum. The company highlighted the program’s role in empowering individuals and businesses to solve challenges directly, from multinational logistics to small-team workflows. The new vibe coding resources are designed to enhance the certificate’s relevance as AI tools evolve, ensuring learners can apply skills immediately in their roles or personal projects.
