Get hands-free personalized help on the road with Gemini
Google’s Gemini AI assistant now offers hands-free, personalized help in cars via Android Auto and Google built-in systems, using data from emails, photos, and calendars to answer complex driving-related questions.
Gemini is now available on Android Auto and in cars with Google built-in, providing a hands-free way to manage tasks while driving. The assistant can access emails, photos, and maps to answer questions or provide directions without requiring users to touch their phones. Drivers can speak naturally to get things done, such as finding flight gates or restaurant recommendations, all while keeping their hands on the wheel and eyes on the road.
Personal Intelligence, a new feature for Gemini, allows the assistant to tailor responses by securely connecting information from Google apps like Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Photos, Google Maps, YouTube, and Search. This capability is designed to retrieve specific details from saved emails, photos, or locations and reason across multiple sources to provide more relevant answers. The feature is intended to reduce the need for drivers to explain context or manually search for information.
Privacy controls are central to Personal Intelligence, as users must opt in to connect their apps and can disable the feature anytime in their Gemini settings. In cars with Google built-in, personal responses are only shared when the user’s phone is connected in the vehicle. Without Personal Intelligence, basic functions like navigation, music, calls, and general questions still work, but answers won’t be personalized.
Personal Intelligence is rolling out starting today on Android Auto, with availability in cars with Google built-in coming in the following months. Users who have already enabled Personal Intelligence in the Gemini app will have access in their vehicles. Eligible users include those with personal Google accounts aged 18 and older globally, excluding the European Economic Area, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, and Nigeria.
