Introducing Americas Connect
Google announced Americas Connect, a major expansion of subsea cable infrastructure across the Americas, including three new systems: Alisios, Canoa, and OlaLuz, alongside a new branch for the Firmina cable.
Google unveiled Americas Connect, a network expansion featuring three new subsea cables—Alisios, Canoa, and OlaLuz—along with a new branch for the Firmina cable. These additions join existing systems like Curie, Nuvem, and Sol to enhance regional connectivity. The Alisios cable will link the Dominican Republic, Panama, and Chile, while Canoa connects the Dominican Republic to Bermuda, enabling direct routes to Europe and North America. The OlaLuz cable will connect the Dominican Republic to Florida, strengthening ties between the Caribbean and the U.S. East Coast.
The expansion introduces a new Firmina branch landing in the Dominican Republic, extending high-capacity connectivity to the Caribbean. In the Pacific, a subsea ring will connect Chile to Panama and the U.S. West Coast, providing access to Google Cloud regions in Los Angeles and Las Vegas. The Caribbean ring will link the Dominican Republic to the U.S. East Coast and Google Cloud regions in South Carolina and Virginia, while the Atlantic route via Canoa will connect to the U.S. East Coast and Europe.
Governments in the Dominican Republic, Panama, Bermuda, and Chile welcomed the initiative, highlighting its potential to bridge the digital divide, foster local talent, and drive economic growth. Officials emphasized the strategic importance of the new infrastructure for regional connectivity, digital transformation, and global integration. The project aligns with national digital strategies in participating countries.
Google stated that Americas Connect aims to improve the reach, reliability, and resilience of connectivity infrastructure across the Americas. The new systems include strategically placed branching units to facilitate future growth, mirroring the approach of the Pacific Connect initiative. The expansion underscores Google’s commitment to building a more connected and open global cloud network.
