Hyundai Motor Group Appoints Junghyun Kwon as Head of Autonomous Driving Development Center

Hyundai Motor Group announced on July 30, 2026, the appointment of Junghyun Kwon as Executive Vice President and Head of the Autonomous Driving Development Center. Kwon will report to Minwoo Park, President and Head of the Advanced Vehicle Platform (AVP) Division. The role focuses on advancing Hyundai’s autonomous driving technology from development to commercialization. The Group stated that Kwon’s expertise in AI and autonomous systems will strengthen its Physical AI vision in mobility.

Kwon brings extensive experience from leading global technology firms, including NVIDIA, where he oversaw autonomous driving software development and commercialization. Most recently, he led intelligent robot development at Samsung Electronics. His background includes work in autonomous vehicle perception software, deep learning, machine learning, and computer vision technologies. Hyundai emphasized that his leadership will accelerate the Group’s autonomous driving capabilities.

The appointment follows Hyundai’s broader strategy to recruit key talent in software-defined vehicles (SDVs) and autonomous driving. Earlier in July, the Group named Dongwuk Kim as Senior Vice President and Head of the SDV Platform Development Center. Kim previously led wireless communication systems development at companies such as Apple and Tesla. Jeremy Ma, Senior Vice President, also joined as Head of the AVP Silicon Valley, bringing expertise from Apple, Toyota Research Institute, and NVIDIA.
