Kellanova, Walmart and Indigo Ag Partner to Advance Farmer Prosperity in Arkansas through Regenerative Agriculture

Kellanova, Walmart, and Indigo Ag have formed a partnership to promote regenerative agriculture among Arkansas rice farmers through the Source by Indigo program. The collaboration provides farmers with financial premiums, data-driven resources, and technical support to adopt practices like improved water management and optimized fertilizer use. The initiative builds on a four-year Walmart-Indigo Ag program that reduced emissions by over 37,000 metric tons of CO₂e and conserved over 11 billion gallons of water while increasing farmer revenues. Kellanova’s involvement expands the effort to enhance sustainable sourcing and community well-being in the region.

The partnership introduces a financial incentive for farmers who adopt regenerative practices, rewarding them with a premium per pound of rice produced under these methods. These funds enable farmers to implement techniques such as crop rotation and soil health improvements, which enhance biodiversity and long-term profitability. The program aligns with Kellanova’s Kellanova Better Days™ Promise, which aims to advance sustainable practices and mitigate climate change impacts across its supply chain. Janelle Meyers, Kellanova’s Chief Sustainability Officer, emphasized the necessity of collaboration to achieve these goals.

Walmart’s participation reflects its ongoing commitment to environmental stewardship and supply chain resilience. Mikel Hancock, Walmart’s Senior Director of Strategic Initiatives, highlighted the partnership’s potential to strengthen supply chains, support farmers, and advance environmental goals. The collaboration also delivers cost savings for both Walmart and Kellanova by optimizing shared agricultural resources and scaling regenerative practices.
