Kraken and MEXC partner to migrate Netherlands clients
Kraken and MEXC will collaborate to transition MEXC’s Netherlands clients to Kraken as MEXC exits the Dutch market, citing a regional strategy realignment.
Kraken and MEXC have announced a partnership to assist MEXC’s clients in the Netherlands with migrating to Kraken as MEXC winds down its services in the country. The agreement includes referral and transition support for both spot and derivatives users affected by the change. MEXC’s decision follows a broader realignment of its regional strategy, prompting the need for an orderly transfer of clients to an alternative platform. Kraken will provide onboarding assistance to ensure a smooth transition for eligible users.
Kraken highlighted its regulatory authorizations, including a MiCA license from the Central Bank of Ireland (CBI) since June 2025, a MiFID authorization from CySEC for derivatives, and an e-money authorization from the CBI. The exchange emphasized its status as one of the few platforms in Europe authorized under both MiCA and MiFID, offering clients a single licensed venue for spot trading and financial instruments. Kraken supports over 600 crypto assets, tokenized equities, and perpetual futures, with EUR fiat rails and quarterly independently verified Proof of Reserves.
Arjun Sethi, Co-CEO of Kraken and Payward, stated that market consolidation is driving platforms to exit the EU or restrict services, concentrating liquidity on remaining venues. He noted that Kraken was built to accommodate this shift, with multi-product and multi-asset capabilities, including e-money licenses and MiCA authorization. Sethi added that Kraken provides clients access to a single platform spanning diverse asset classes with verified reserves.
Robert MacDonald, Chief Compliance Officer of MEXC, emphasized the priority of supporting affected users through a clear and orderly transition process. He explained that the partnership with Kraken offers eligible Netherlands-based users an established alternative as MEXC adjusts its service availability. MacDonald reiterated MEXC’s commitment to minimizing disruption and providing ongoing support throughout the transition period.
