Kraken has launched US-listed stock trading for eligible customers in the European Economic Area (EEA) through its MiFID II-authorized entity, Payward Europe Digital Solutions (CY) Limited. The service allows trading on both mobile and web platforms, integrating traditional equities with tokenized versions called xStocks. Customers can now access 7,000+ US stocks alongside 600+ crypto assets and 700+ xStocks, all within a single regulated account. The move aims to simplify global market access by eliminating the need for multiple platforms or fragmented trading experiences.

The announcement introduces a unified trading environment where investors can choose between traditional shares and tokenized equivalents without transferring funds or switching platforms. Mark Greenberg, Chief Commercial Officer of Payward, highlighted the elimination of the divide between asset formats, describing the integration as a modern approach to investing. xStocks, which are fully collateralized 1:1 with underlying shares, offer additional flexibility, including self-custody options and after-hours trading. The service is provided under Kraken’s European regulatory framework, ensuring compliance with MiFID II standards.

xStocks have already surpassed $38 billion in total transaction volume, establishing themselves as a leading tokenized equity product in the market. The tokenized assets combine the familiarity of stocks with blockchain infrastructure benefits, such as 24/7 transferability and integration with onchain applications. Traditional shares remain subject to market hours and brokerage limitations, while xStocks provide extended functionality without compromising regulatory backing. Kraken’s European entity ensures that both asset types are traded within a fully regulated environment, maintaining consistent price exposure.

Kraken plans to expand this integrated stocks offering to additional markets in the coming months, advancing its goal of a globally accessible, multi-asset investing platform. The launch reflects a broader trend toward multi-asset investing, where investors no longer need to choose between traditional and tokenized formats for the same exposure. By bridging these two worlds, Kraken provides a single, regulated platform for accessing US equities and digital assets, catering to both crypto-native and traditional investors.
