The Commodities Cup: trade oil, gas, and copper for a share of $10,000 USDG
Kraken will host a month-long trading competition, The Commodities Cup, with a $10,000 USDG prize pool for 200 winners based on realized PnL in oil, gas, and copper perpetual futures from August 20 to September 20, 2026.
Kraken has announced The Commodities Cup, a four-week trading competition open to eligible clients outside the EEA, US, UK, and Canada. The event runs from August 20 to September 20, 2026, and features four perpetual futures markets: crude oil, natural gas, copper, and an additional unspecified market. Prizes total $10,000 USDG, distributed across 200 ranked participants based on realized profit and loss (PnL) from closed positions only. Rankings are determined by actual trading performance, not trading volume or account size.
Participants may trade any combination of the four markets without restrictions on asset allocation or trading strategy. Each market operates independently, with distinct drivers such as OPEC+ policy for oil, weather and storage levels for natural gas, and construction demand for copper. Traders can use leverage but must manage risk, as open positions do not contribute to rankings until closed. The leaderboard updates in real time, allowing competitors to monitor their progress throughout the month.
The prize structure includes fixed payouts for the top 20 ranks, published before the competition begins, while ranks 21 to 200 share a pooled amount that varies based on the number of qualifying participants. To qualify for the leaderboard, traders must generate at least $1 in realized PnL across eligible markets during the competition window. Kraken notes that commodity markets can be volatile, and leveraged trading amplifies both gains and losses, advising participants to trade responsibly.
Eligibility is limited to Kraken clients outside specified regions, including the EEA, US, UK, and Canada. Existing futures traders are automatically enrolled, while spot or margin traders can enable futures trading to participate. All closed positions in eligible markets are automatically included in the competition. Kraken Derivatives’ risk disclosure emphasizes the risks of futures and leveraged trading, advising users to consider their risk tolerance before participating.
