Meta Donates 1,000 AI Glasses to Singapore’s Disability Community
Meta donated 1,000 AI glasses and a US$30,000 grant to Singapore’s disability community to support independence and accessibility training.
Meta’s Chief Global Affairs Officer Joel Kaplan announced the donation of 1,000 Ray-Ban Meta AI glasses to four Singapore organizations supporting persons with disabilities. The recipients include the Singapore Association of the Visually Handicapped, Guide Dogs Singapore, the Singapore Disability Sports Council, and Gardens by the Bay. Kaplan emphasized the glasses’ potential to assist with daily tasks such as reading text, identifying objects, and describing surroundings for people with visual impairments.
The announcement was made during an accessibility showcase co-hosted by Meta and the Singapore Disability Sports Council, attended by Senior Parliamentary Secretary Eric Chua and representatives from disability organizations. Kaplan highlighted the technology’s role in fostering independence, noting that the glasses enable hands-free calls, live translation, and music listening for users with disabilities.
Meta also committed a US$30,000 investment to fund an accessibility training curriculum for persons with visual impairment in Singapore. The training, developed with the Singapore Association of the Visually Handicapped, will teach users to safely operate the glasses for tasks like identifying objects, reading text, and using voice commands to support daily activities.
The donation and training initiative aim to expand opportunities for persons with disabilities in work, sports, and community life. Representatives from Guide Dogs Singapore and Gardens by the Bay underscored the technology’s potential to enhance independence, participation, and inclusive experiences in public spaces.
