Microsoft announced Volkswagen Group has equipped more than 330,000 employees with Microsoft Copilot, aiming to improve productivity and streamline decision-making. The deployment follows Volkswagen’s phased AI adoption strategy, beginning with broad access to Copilot Chat, which now sees over 300,000 monthly active users. Employees are now using Copilot with Work IQ for advanced productivity scenarios, embedding AI into core business processes such as engineering, production, procurement, and sales.
Volkswagen Group’s deployment includes over 26,000 active agents scaling AI-driven productivity gains, marking a significant expansion of its AI initiatives. The company highlights that Copilot supports employees in making better-informed decisions while working more efficiently across its global operations. Volkswagen’s Head of Group Data and AI emphasized the importance of making AI accessible at scale for everyday work.
Microsoft and Volkswagen Group plan to expand their collaboration by scaling the Intelligent Data Foundation on Microsoft Fabric, creating a unified data ecosystem. This initiative aims to make trusted data easier to find, understand, and use across the entire company. The collaboration will be showcased at the Microsoft AI Tour in Cologne, Germany, on October 22, 2026.
Microsoft Germany’s Chair of the Management Board noted that Volkswagen’s deployment of Copilot demonstrates how AI can evolve from a personal productivity tool into a foundation for future innovation. The partnership reflects a broader commitment to integrating AI responsibly and broadly across industries to meet evolving customer needs.
