How to get the Windows 11 2026 Update
Microsoft announced the Windows 11 2026 Update, version 26H2, now available for eligible devices running versions 25H2 or 24H2.
Microsoft has officially released the Windows 11 2026 Update, also designated as version 26H2, continuing the annual feature update cycle for Windows 11. The update builds on the same servicing foundation as prior releases, incorporating the latest innovations while maintaining a streamlined deployment process. For many eligible devices, transitioning to version 26H2 requires only a small enablement package, enabling new features already present in the operating system through prior servicing updates. This approach reduces download size and installation time, requiring only a single restart to activate the update.
The Windows 11 2026 Update is delivered as an enablement package specifically for devices running Windows 11 versions 25H2 or 24H2. An enablement package activates previously included features without requiring a full system upgrade, leveraging shared codebase and servicing branch among these versions. This method ensures a faster and less disruptive update experience compared to traditional upgrades, aligning with user expectations for minimal downtime and rapid deployment.
Version 26H2 is now available through standard update channels, including Windows Update and organizational management tools such as Windows Autopatch and the Microsoft 365 admin center. Users can enable early access by selecting 'Get the latest updates as soon as they’re available' in Settings > Windows Update. Microsoft is rolling out the update gradually, with safeguard holds applied to devices where compatibility issues are detected to protect the update experience.
The update includes the latest quality, reliability, and security improvements, with support lifecycles reset upon installation: 24 months for Home and Pro editions, and 36 months for Enterprise and Education editions. Some features previously disabled by default in version 25H2 will now be enabled by default in version 26H2.
