Microsoft’s newest India datacenter region goes live to power the country’s AI economy and enable Frontier Firms
Microsoft launched its fourth cloud region in India, the India South Central region in Hyderabad, to support AI workloads with local infrastructure, sovereignty controls, and resilience aligned to regulatory requirements.

Microsoft announced the general availability of its India South Central cloud region in Hyderabad, Telangana, providing customers with a local option to run eligible Microsoft Cloud services and workloads. The region is designed to support scalable AI workloads with enterprise-grade security, compliance, and governance, offering three Availability Zones built to meet India’s regulatory and seismic-zone requirements for mission-critical operations.
The new region expands Microsoft’s cloud presence in India to four regions, alongside existing facilities in Pune, Chennai, and Mumbai, as well as two datacenters operated in partnership with Jio. Microsoft highlighted its $20.5 billion investment commitment to India’s cloud and AI future, emphasizing the need for trusted infrastructure close to where data resides and decisions are made to accelerate AI adoption and business value creation.
Analysts noted the region’s strategic importance amid India’s rapid AI adoption, with public cloud spending projected to reach $45.7 billion by 2030, growing at 22.2% annually. Early demand has come from sectors such as financial services, digital platforms, and diversified enterprises, which are leveraging the region to enhance operational resilience, business continuity, and AI innovation on trusted infrastructure.
Microsoft also underscored its commitment to sustainability, with the Hyderabad region featuring next-generation zero-water cooling systems and sourcing renewable energy. The company has entered into long-term agreements for over 1,000 megawatts of new solar, wind, and hybrid energy projects in India, including partnerships with developers like ReNew and Amplus to support community initiatives and digital skills training for 20 million Indians by 2030.
