Members appointed to Auckland’s new Regional Transport Committee
Newly appointed Auckland Regional Transport Committee will align central and local government transport priorities under a single governance structure.
Transport Minister Chris Bishop and Auckland Mayor Wayne Brown have confirmed appointees to the Auckland Regional Transport Committee (ARTC), a body designed to improve coordination between central and local government on transport decisions. The committee will address long-standing issues of fragmented planning and unclear long-term direction in Auckland’s transport system. Its structure includes three Ministerial appointees, three Auckland Council appointees, and a jointly appointed Chair, ensuring shared accountability. The ARTC is established under the Local Government (Auckland Council) (Transport Governance) Amendment Act 2026, which took effect on 7 May 2026.
Mayor Wayne Brown highlighted the ARTC’s role in delivering a more integrated approach to transport planning, aligning with the Auckland Regional Deal’s emphasis on genuine partnership. He noted the committee’s importance in providing long-term certainty for Aucklanders and improving decision-making for major projects. Brown praised the selection process for the Chair, emphasizing the need for strong governance from the outset. The ARTC’s mandate includes overseeing strategic transport investments and ensuring alignment with Auckland’s growth needs.
Daniel Williams, appointed Chair for a one-year term starting 14 September 2026, brings over 30 years of experience in master-planned communities, infrastructure, and commercial developments across New Zealand and the Pacific. His background includes leadership roles in surveying and land development, as well as serving on boards such as Survey and Spatial New Zealand. Williams’ prior role as Chair of the Regulatory Review Committee demonstrated his ability to foster consensus between council and industry stakeholders.
The Ministerial appointees to the ARTC include Carl, Bronwyn, and Stuart, each selected for their expertise in infrastructure, transport planning, economics, and spatial planning. Carl, a corporate finance adviser with over 30 years’ experience, has led major capital market transactions and advised on infrastructure projects. Bronwyn, a civil engineer with 45 years’ experience, specializes in transport planning and has worked extensively with government agencies. Stuart, a strategic advisor, has served on government panels and led initiatives in housing and infrastructure policy.
