Perplexity Portable Computer Is Now Available on Windows, Powered by NVIDIA RTX
Perplexity’s AI agent now runs locally on Windows PCs with NVIDIA RTX GPUs, enabling on-device task automation while optionally tapping cloud models for advanced reasoning.
Perplexity Portable Computer is a local version of the Perplexity AI agent designed to plan and execute multistep tasks directly on a Windows PC. The tool uses locally hosted models to analyze data, integrate information from files, and handle recurring work without sending sensitive information to the cloud. Users can also route tasks to cloud-based models when deeper reasoning is required, with the agent requesting permission before offloading data. The feature is integrated into the Perplexity app for Windows, expanding access beyond existing support for NVIDIA DGX Spark systems and Linux-based RTX PCs.
The release targets NVIDIA GeForce RTX PCs and NVIDIA RTX PRO Workstations equipped with 24GB or more of VRAM, ensuring compatibility with high-performance GPUs. Setup is streamlined through a pre-configured local model, Qwen 3.8 27B, which is optimized for NVIDIA RTX GPUs and post-trained for Perplexity Computer. Users can begin using the agent without manually selecting models or configuring complex software stacks, reducing barriers to adoption.
Perplexity Portable Computer includes built-in tools such as a browser and the proprietary SPACE sandbox, allowing users to work with sensitive files locally while leveraging cloud resources when necessary. Connectors for Microsoft Outlook, OneDrive, Word, Google Drive, Gmail, Slack, and GitHub integrate the agent into existing workflows, enabling it to interact with files and applications already in use. The agent can automate tasks across these platforms, such as summarizing documents or organizing data, without requiring additional setup.
Support for NVIDIA DGX Station is expected to arrive in the near future, further broadening the range of compatible hardware. The feature builds on Perplexity’s existing strategy of combining local and cloud AI, prioritizing privacy for on-device processing while offering flexibility for complex tasks. The Windows release marks a step toward making agentic AI more accessible to everyday PC users.
