Airbnb has expanded its collaboration with OpenAI, granting its engineering and product teams broader access to frontier models such as GPT‑6 Astra. This builds on Airbnb’s existing use of OpenAI’s Codex and other models like GPT‑5.6 Sol, Terra, and Luna. The agreement provides access through OpenAI APIs and Amazon Bedrock, enabling deeper integration into Airbnb’s internal AI systems.
Airbnb engineers currently rely on an internal AI assistant for software development and remote agent creation. The expanded access to GPT‑6 Astra and other models aims to accelerate tasks beyond coding, including debugging, system design, and strategic planning. Early tests show Astra significantly reduces the number of iterations needed for non-coding tasks, improving efficiency compared to previous models.
The company leverages OpenAI models across multiple areas, including search optimization, fraud detection, guest and host support, and insurance claims processing. These AI-driven tools help Airbnb better understand guest preferences, identify fraudulent activity, and streamline claims for faster resolution.
