ChatGPT Ads expands across Europe
OpenAI expands ChatGPT Ads to 31 European markets, offering advertisers new ways to engage users during active decision-making processes while maintaining privacy and ad-free paid plans.
OpenAI announced the expansion of ChatGPT Ads to 31 European markets, six months after initial testing in the U.S. Advertisers can access the service through OpenAI’s Ads Solutions team, agency partners, or technology partners, with self-service via Ads Manager planned for later this summer. The rollout supports OpenAI’s goal of providing free and low-cost access to ChatGPT, as ads will only appear for users on Free and Go plans, while Pro and Enterprise subscribers remain ad-free.
The expansion provides marketers with a new channel to reach users during active exploration and decision-making, such as planning trips, selecting software, or learning new skills. Unlike traditional keyword-based ads, ChatGPT Ads allow users to describe their goals, priorities, and constraints, enabling marketers to engage them at critical stages of the customer journey without influencing ChatGPT’s responses.
OpenAI emphasized its commitment to user trust by ensuring conversations remain private from advertisers and never selling customer data. Ads are clearly labeled and separated from ChatGPT’s answers, with users retaining control over ad personalization. Paid plans without ads are available for those who prefer an ad-free experience, aligning with the company’s principle that ads should be useful to users and effective for businesses.
This marks OpenAI’s largest expansion of ChatGPT Ads to date, following a successful pilot in the U.S. and eight additional markets. Tens of thousands of marketers have already used the platform, and OpenAI plans further development of formats, tools, and measurement solutions. Businesses can sign up for access at ads.openai.com.
