The useful question is what changes for users, developers or buyers, and whether the announcement stays industry context or becomes something people can actually use.
PayPal and Amazon announced that eligible Amazon customers in Germany and Austria will gain access to PayPal Ratenzahlung beginning in August 2026. The service will be available on Amazon.de and the Amazon app over the following weeks, enabling users to split eligible purchases into fixed monthly payments. Customers can choose terms of 3, 6, 12, 24, 36, or 48 months, with amounts ranging from €30 to €10,000. PayPal stated this expansion strengthens its Buy Now, Pay Later offerings through Amazon, the world’s largest ecommerce retailer.
PayPal Ratenzahlung integrates directly into Amazon’s checkout process, providing a transparent way to pay over time. Users can review pricing and repayment details upfront on Amazon and track payments via the PayPal app or online. Payments are automatically debited monthly from the customer’s bank account or debit card, with email and text reminders sent before due dates. Customers may also make additional repayments or settle the balance early at no extra cost, offering flexibility in managing installment plans.
The service is available only to Amazon.de customers with a German or Austrian PayPal account, subject to a credit check and residence requirements. Terms include an effective annual interest rate of 11.49% and fixed borrowing rates varying by term length, ranging from 10.86% to 10.91% per annum. Representative examples are provided under German and Austrian regulations, illustrating total costs for a €1,000 loan over 12 months.
PayPal Ratenzahlung on Amazon.de and the Amazon app will roll out gradually over the coming weeks. The collaboration aims to provide Amazon customers with a familiar and trusted payment option, aligning with PayPal’s goal of expanding its Pay Later footprint in key markets.
