Arc Raiders Expeditions may not come back: 'Maybe we'll scrap the whole system'
Embark Studios may permanently cancel Expeditions in *Arc Raiders* after pausing them until 2027 for a major overhaul.
Embark Studios announced a pause on Expeditions in *Arc Raiders* until early 2027 to address persistent player complaints that incremental fixes cannot resolve. The studio is reconsidering whether to scrap the system entirely rather than reintroduce it in its current form. Expeditions allow high-level players to reset their characters in exchange for unique benefits, but many have criticized the grind required for limited rewards. Embark acknowledged issues such as restrictive departure windows, unclear reward structures, and accessibility barriers for new players as reasons for the overhaul.
Arc Raiders executive producer Aleksander Grøndal stated that the system is not perfect and requires significant changes, leaving open the possibility of abandoning Expeditions altogether. The fifth and final scheduled Expedition departs at the end of September before the pause takes effect. Grøndal emphasized that the team is still evaluating the future of Expeditions, with no final decision made yet. The outcome hinges on feedback gathered during the pause and the upcoming Frozen Trails update in October.
The pause was announced in August, with Embark noting that Expeditions needed more than minor adjustments to satisfy player expectations. Players invest substantial time and resources into Expeditions, only to receive relatively minor benefits upon completion. The system’s flaws have led to widespread dissatisfaction, prompting Embark to explore radical alternatives. Whether Expeditions return in a revised form or are discontinued remains uncertain.
Embark Studios has not set a deadline for deciding the fate of Expeditions, leaving players in limbo until at least the Frozen Trails update. Grøndal confirmed that scrapping the system is a viable option under consideration. The studio’s focus is on determining the best path forward, whether through major revisions or complete removal. Players should prepare for significant changes regardless of the final decision.
